Univision will tell the story of the late Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera in a biopic series based on the book written by her manager, Pete Salgado. The series, called Dolores, will be released in 2017. The producers are Pete Salgado of TuYo Media, Mari Urdaneta of Dhana Media, Luis Balaguer of LatinWE, and Francisco Cordero, of BTF Media will be responsible for the filmmaking. After watching the sublime production of Juan Gabriel, BTF was the logical partner for us to accomplish a biopic that matches such a successful figure as the Band Diva and her story with Pete, Balaguer said. Cordero has been leading three biopics: Juan Gabriel, César Chávez, and now Jenni Rivera.Urdaneta of Dhana Media said that theyve been working with Pete in the project, which in some way its Petes tribute to Jenni. He wants to tell his vision about Jennis experience as an artist, a friend and a woman. Univision involvement is key because it was her headquarters, Urdaneta said. Right now they are in the pre-production stage, Urdaneta added, identifying possible writers, actors and all the details that a project of this magnitude entails. The plan is to begin filming the last quarter of the year in order to be on the air by 2017. Initially is intended to be a series that could be extended to a second season, she explained. Rivera was one of the most successful regional Mexican musical artists of all time and best seller. She was also a producer, actress and composer. She was killed in a 2012 plane crash in northern Mexico.
